A lot of people ask me if kids can benefit from seeing chiropractors, and the answer is a resounding YES.
Perhaps there is a misconception out there that only adults see chiropractors or that kids are too 'young' to see chiropractors. Perhaps even their medical doctors may have discouraged parents from taking their children to chiropractors, (again, usually due to misconceptions).
Children are subjected to the same physical, chemical, and emotional stresses as adults are. In fact, right from birth trauma to learning to hold their heads up, crawl, walk, ride bikes, skate etc., us humans sustain a lot of "bumps and bruises" along the way. Add to that a more prevalent problem that I like to call "technology strain" or "text neck". It seems that most children nowadays have laptops or portable devices, which are not conducive to good posture, not to mention that it promotes a more sedentary lifestyle. Also consider the problem of heavy backpacks and book bags, which can put a lot of stress on the body, and spine in particular, (something I like to call "student syndrome").
The good news, however, is that at a young age we generally have not accumulated the multiple 'layers' of problems that we see in adults. For that reason, they are more responsive chiropractic treatment and they generally get better quicker. As we are developing and growing we are still forging our neural pathways so it is also important to note that addressing these problems early in life can help avoid many of the health complaints seen later in life as adults. Chiropractic treatment not only helps with sprains and strains but also helps the body function at a more optimal level by promoting proper nervous system function. This is why parents and children may notice the benefits of chiropractic care for such problems as colic, poor sleep issues, digestive issues, behavioral problems, to name a few.
We only want the best for our children, so why not adopt a healthy lifestyle and attitude at an early age? If you think your child may benefit from chiropractic care, please give us a call 519-258-8544.
