Healthy Feet = Healthier Life

It’s estimated that the average person will walk about 115,000 miles in their lifetime! Within our feet are one-quarter of the bones in our body, 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. With so much of our lives dependent on our feet, it’s not surprising that so many people suffer from some type of foot dysfunction.

Problems related to foot dysfunction can manifest into ankle, knee, hip and back issues. As an example, imagine walking with a stone in your shoe, by the end of the day your ankles, knees or hips might be sore from limping and overcompensating for the stone. When there is even a small or unknown problem in your feet, your body might show symptoms elsewhere - like in the ankles, knees, hips and back.

How orthotics help foot and related pain

An orthotic is a corrective, custom, biometrical medical appliance worn inside your shoe. Orthotics can help the muscles, tendons and bones of your feet and lower legs function at their highest potential, thereby reducing the stress on your body and helping your feet function better.

Here at Colasanti Chiropractic and Wellness Centre in Windsor, we perform a biomechanical gait analysis that looks at foot function and any specific deformities, as well as the functional biomechanics of the body in general. After this, a cast or some form of an impression of the foot is made and the orthotics are then constructed based on all of this information. Many times orthotics are covered by employee health plans.
